Classic movies we love

Animal House
the original Death Wish (the sequels got progressively worse)
Most Charles Bronson movies
Anything by Sergio Leone
the Universal studios Frankenstein, Wolfman and Mummy movies
Charlton Heston epics Ben Hur and The Ten Commandments
Peter Sellers movies, especially the Pink Panther series
Any movie where the Titanic sinks
Mel Brooks films

Anything with Eli Wallach playing a Mexican (The Magnificent Seven, Good, Bad and Ugly), most Charles Bronson movies (he and I share ethnic heritage), Animal House, Mel Brooks movies, and Alfred Hitchkock movies. Dislikes are all Star Wars movies, Animated movies.
Yes indeed! Anything with Eli I can watch. Wallach even played a fantastic Asian "bad guy" with Peter O'Toole in Lord JIm from 1965.
Eli Wallach was even there for Steve McQueen's last film just before McQueen passed away. The movie was a pretty good yet timely
1980s film called The Hunter based on the life of one of the last real life Bounty Hunters in America named Ralph PaPa Thorson.

The Sand Pebbles - and other Steve McQueen films. Also have seen Pappillon and Bullitt too many times to count.
In Harm's Way - John Wayne / Kirk Douglas WWII US Navy battle movie.
PT-109 The JFK story about his time in the WWII Pacific war.

There is one really off beat (not like others) he made that is killer funny called The Party! OMG you will wet your pants.

Plot[edit]

A film crew is making a Gunga Din-style costume epic. Unknown Indian actor Hrundi V. Bakshi (Peter Sellers) plays a bugler, but continues to play after repeatedly being shot and after the director (Herb Ellis) yells "cut." Hrundi then accidentally blows up an enormous fort set rigged with explosives, ruining the film. The director fires Hrundi immediately and calls the studio head, General Fred R. Clutterbuck (J. Edward McKinley). Clutterbuck writes down Hrundi's name to blacklist him, but he inadvertently writes it on the guest list of his upcoming dinner party.

The Empire Strikes Back (The best of the Star Wars movies IMO)
The Quiet Man
Back To The Future an B.T.T.F 3 (I didn't care too much for B.T.T.F. 2)
A Christmas Story
Stripes
Groundhog Day
Ghostbusters (Original of course)

I'm particularly fond of the movie "Harvey" with Jimmy Stewart. If you've never seen it, you should give it a go.

I am glad someone remembered STRIPES. The entire movie just flat out killed. Look at the cast.
John Candy , Warren Oats , Larroquette , Ramis to Sean Young , PJ Soles + Bill Murray , Judge Reinhold and on.....
I knew it would be hurt your self laughing just from the opening stuff with Murray: dropping his pizza in the street
when his car gets repo'd to throwing the basketball thru the windows! Then when his pal asks how is he doing! LOL
"Lets see, I 've had an intersting morning. In the last two hours I have lost my job, my girlfriend , my car and my
apartment!"

I always thought that Murray responded perfectly when Ramis told him he could join a monastery.

"So much for the monastery" :sneaky: 🍻

A few Robert Mitchum films I really like:

The Night of the Hunter (1955)
Heaven knows, Mr. Allison (1957)
Cape Fear (1962)
Cape Fear (1991)

If we define "classic movies" as top-quality movies that are at least 20 years old I will list most of my favorites that were initially released during my lifetime beginning in 1976. I won't go back further because the list will get way too long. I won't go beyond 2003. I'll spare you my foreign language picks.

Rocky
Star Wars, the original trilogy with TESB being the best one
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
The Spy who Loved Me
Apocalypse Now
Das Boot
Alien, Aliens
The Sea Wolves
Excalibur
Mad Max, and its sequel the Road Warrior, I don't care for the third one or the reboot
The Elephant Man
The Shining
Ragtime
Raiders of the Lost Ark, Temple of Doom, The Last Crusade
Blade Runner
First Blood
Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan
Once Upon a Time in America
Back to the Future
Blue Velvet
The Predator
The Thing
Stand by Me
The Right Stuff
The Mosquito Coast
Robocop, the 1987 original
Escape from New York
Terminator and its sequel T2
Full Metal Jacket
Die Hard
Jurassic Park, I only like the first one in the series
The Silence of the Lambs
Star Trek: The Undiscovered Country
Pulp Fiction
Fight Club
True Lies
Cliffhanger
The Shawshank Redemption
LA Confidential, I recommend you read the book. The movie is great but contains maybe 10% of the Ellroy novel.
The Usual Suspects
Saving Private Ryan
Black Hawk Down
The LOTR trilogy
Kill Bill Volume 1, Volume 2 is from 2004 and doesn't qualify yet

Duel and Beetlejuice are a few that come to mind. I don’t really get interested in movies but those two are good classics.
Beetlejuice is not the type of movie I normally watch yet someone told me "its too funny, you have to watch!" I did and it was too funny.
I thought Keaton's play + attitude of his character was hillarious! He alone made it worth watching for me. I recall Duel from when it first came out. Good film.

I will have to read LA Confidential since I have seen it too many times to count I thought it was such a good story line.
I have found over the years after the fact that many of the classic films , westerns , others and even some modern films
I tend to like are written by E.Leonard. One of the best rated IMHO western films I have seen is Hombre with Paul Newman
also by E.L. I just found out he wrote some other classics I watched a lot. The Moonshine Wars / Joe Kidd / Mr Majestyk!

A few Robert Mitchum films I really like:

The Night of the Hunter (1955)
Heaven knows, Mr. Allison (1957)
Cape Fear (1962)
Cape Fear (1991)
I have always been a Mitchum fan. Lately since we been streaming I have found and watched several I had no idea were made with him starring in them. One of my favs with Mitchum and Dean Martin is called Five Card Stud. It is almost a detective style western.
