Clacking noise from chevy 6.0....

If I had to guess, I'd go with something in you 4L80E auto transmission, check the AT fluid level, and maybe think about a filter change, fluid change and/or fluid flush.

When you have a wheel sensor problem, usually the noise comes from the ABS module when applying the brakes.


Yes, it runs the power steering pump as well. And it does not have to do with the brakes. It only clacks when accelerating. Ill be interested to find out what it is. If the noise continues It will probably be checked out next week.

Perhaps a crankshaft trust bearing.

Pretty hard to diagnose, but it can't be 'forward specific' and be anything engine, as it wouldn't care which way the truck was moving...

That's my guess.
If it was manifold bolts it would be more of a simple tick. This is a common problem though your right. I'm guessing that those have never been done. Might want to look into that aside from your clacking.

I drove it again today, and while it is still clacking, its not as frequent. Still clacking when accelerating from a stop though. There was a squeal that accompanied the clacking today, so maybe power steering issue? When the brake booster was leaking it was leaking P/S fluid, so maybe it got too low and damaged the P/S motor.

Can you take off PS belt and try it???
