Well, the latest CJ-4 rated diesel oils are also API SM rated, and are running about $3.00/qt. Anyone plan to give this stuff a try?

Walmart has it in the 15w40 grade, but they also exist in 10w30, and a local distributor should be able to get some for me, I suppose...

I saw Delo 400 LE 15w40 at Walmart last month. As I recall, the price was about $3.00/qt.

Delo 400 just caught my eye, I wasn't actively looking for other CJ4 rated oils.

SM/API does not limit phosphorus, ILSAC/GF-4 does. HDEO's are not ILSAC rated and don't have to meet their phosphorus limits. However, API CJ-4 does impose lower phosphorus limits I believe. They are still over 1000 ppm though. Sulfated ash is now maxed at 1%. All in all, I think the CJ-4 spec would be much friendlier to a gasoline car engine compared to previous API HDEO specifications.

When I use up my this month purcases of calendar coupon old school delo from Kragen at $6 a gallon, I'll worry about $3 a qt HDEO.
