So from what I can tell, Chrysler has been using ethylene glycol antifreeze and G-05 antifreeze, and that it is changing over to a "new" OAT antifreeze with the '13 models that is replacing G-05 (don't quote me on this stuff)

Anyway, the antifreeze for my truck says "5yr/100,000mile" ethylene gylcol which I *think* is a silicated antifreeze. It is orange-ish in color.

Soooo.... my question is, when I replace the coolant, am I supposed to stick with the same stuff? or is Chrysler replacing the use of this with their "new" G-05 replacement antifreeze?

But I don't think this 5/100 antifreeze that came from the factory is G-05?

I would use what the owner's manual says. It should give a Chrysler part number. Older Chryslers used a HOAT coolat, a Hybrid Organic Acid Technology coolant. Newer ones may be different. When the time comes, I would use whatever is specified. If that is superceded by a different coolant, you can be sure that Chrysler has validated that new coolant with older vehicle requirements.

When the time comes, your Chrysler dealer parts department should be able to help you out. Even if you don't ultimately buy the coolant from them, they should be able to give you the answer.

What do you think it came from the factory with?

Did you buy it new?

Call around to few Chrysler dealers too. I get gallons of pure US made Mopar G-05 from a parts jobber for $9.79 plus tax.

The Mopar stuff I use is red when concentrated, turns pink when diluted. OP mentioned an orangish color, maybe his truck takes the new Dexclone stuff?

From what I've read, this new version of the G05 replacement is supposed to be superior. From what I've read also is that silicates still provide the best protection , even better than the newer coolants even though most have been moving away from it

Yes, I bought it new. Can't find the darn book that shows what it calls for, but the bottle says its ethylene glycol 5/100 . That's what was in it new.

I recently installed a different thermostat so I had to pick up a gallon from the dealer. I guess my confusion comes from the idea I had that I though Chrysler had switched to g05 in everything some years ago, but maybe not in everything? Am I wrong in thinking that this coolant I have is not G05?

Wish someone else would chime in. Someone else posted that all antifreeze uses ethylene glycol. Don't known if this is true or not. Would the container say somethingabout hoat coolant?

Ok. So I pulled up the service info, and for this vehicle is states

♦ Engine Coolant (5.7L Engines)
MOPAR® Antifreeze/Coolant 5 Year/100,000 Mile Formula HOAT (Hybrid Organic Additive Technology)
1 Gallon - 05066386AA

Ran this part number through the parts system and it superceeds to 688048953AB which is the 5/100 antifreeze that I bought from the dealer. So there is no mention of HOAT on the bottle, but it appears that it is in fact the HOAT antifreeze. So that answers that questions. I wish they would put that on the bottle to make things less confusing.
