Choosing a Generator

Haha, I tried some 2000 grit sanding discs today, and it is quicker than the compound, but I still need to go deeper, may get some 1000 grit, would 500 grit be too far?

I’d use 800 or maybe 1k. I wouldn’t use 500 unless you plan to put a good bit of time into it and then spray it with a gravity-feed air sprayer.

I think 1000 is still not aggressive enough, but we're getting somewhere

The last owner had a Baldwin B161-S, and I just bought more of them as they were a good deal and seem well regarded

Unknown oil, it only has 100 hours on it since the last owner changed the oil and filter, and Kubota now says 1000 hour OCI, so I don't really want to change it just yet.

I probably won't go to 1000 hours, I'll change it after the next long run, and then go maybe 300 hours after that and send for analysis

I removed EVERY RATTLE from the unit. Very very smooth now!

100ft 6 AWG SEOW Cord coming in so I can connect to the house without moving it

1000 hour intervals seems insane. I’d love to see a UOA though. I’d likely be surprised.

Ordered a Fumoto valve for this

Got it installed, and didn't realize there was 2 oil caps on this engine, of course I only saw the top one and struggled and got oil everywhere when the funnel slipped out! Used Rotella T6 5W-40

I do wish the "top" of the valve was facing upwards, but no matter how many times I re-threaded it, it ended up this way. There is of course a newer, more expensive, more complicated version of the valve that lets you rotate to any orientation, but I wanted this version

Used a 19mm wrench to give it 1/8th of a turn once hand tight

I did also remove the larger plug at the bottom once I drained the oil, to confirm that its not required to drain from there (The book says to only use the larger plug) and nothing came out, since I was able to angle the engine backwards using the jacks on the tower
