Has anyone ever found an Timken wheel bearing to be made in China and installed it? How has it performed over time? This will be for my Uplander, both sides. TIMKEN Part # HA590157 from Rockauto.

if timkin is on top of qc they should be fine.the Chinese can make quality stuff if they are told to. but if a company only wants to pay $.03 for a bearing thats all they get.

agreed

I have a made in korea timken bearing on the front of my truck. Without going and looking at my service book, my guess is it has around 40k miles on it.

I see no reason not to trust the timken brand at this point

I'll pay that comment.

Had a company who looked like they got snookered by what appeared to be corruption in a regular supplying country offer to do some stuff in China...were prepared to have engineers and quality teams stationed in China, and keep control of the whole chain if needed.

These days there is not a lot you can do to avoid Chinese made parts. But as was mentioned, its up to the company whose name is on the box to do quality control.

Yes you do have to have QA paid for by the purchasing company full time in China to get quality, partly because to avoid conflict of interest and partly because they just don't know what's not negotiable in quality for the less experienced employees.

The more developed nations have an older more experienced team that tends to be over the learning curves already, and have been doing it for decades.

I have used Chinese made bearing (non timken). I greased the "S" out of them and it worked good. Lasted as long as oem. Gunmen bearings are good to go.

Korea is years ahead of China, so I don't consider this a fair comparison. That would be like using a 1980s Hyundai Excel to measure all things Korean.

Sometimes I get something good that is made in China, if it comes from a major company with strict quality control. That in mind, I have certainly see great companies write their name on cheap junk from China, Craftsman is probably the best example here.

I agree korean stuff is pretty good... but every timken i had bought before was made in USA.

But as far as Timken moving some MFG overseas, it seems like they are keeping their QC in check. My point being if its a Timken, no matter of origin, I would use it with confidence.

Unless for some reason we start seeing a slip in QC

One could probably say the same for Taiwan over most mainland Sino produced goods as well, as much as people don't like anything from there as well.

But yes, the general consensus is that they too are behind Korea at this point in general quality.

Yes, I have seen clearly that Taiwan makes stuff better than mainland China.
