Tsunami alerts issued as far away as Hawaii and Australia.
Hope there isnt one.

There has been a 1.5 metre surge at the Chatham Islands,and other surges around New Zealand.Boaties warned about not going out,but they still are.Some major destruction in Chile,but fatalities low at 64 at this stage....let's hope it stays low.
Fishing contests everywhere....but they will be ok in a boat.We have a lot of fatalities fishing off the rocks,sure not the thing to do today.
False alarm here. Largest fluctuation about 5-6 feet. Surfers been out all day neglecting warnings at Ala Moana. Last tsunami from Chile in 1960 http://hvo.wr.usgs.gov/volcanowatch/1994/94_05_20.html
I wouldn't call it a false alarm as there was a surge, it just wasn't a huge one, thank God.

The tsunami with destructive force are caused beneath the sea surface not on land in more probable cases.

If it didn't travel a great distance, it wouldn't be a tsunami. They have very long wavelengths.
