Chevy Trailblazer thermostat swap

My coworker has a newer Blazer and has already had to have a thermostat replaced. Said it was a big job, but was under warranty.. As someone who does all his own maintenance/repairs this is the kind of stuff I was looking for while car shopping and the reason we're getting a NA v6 Honda Pilot and not one of the many turbo-4 hybrid options out there..
Subaru learned this the hard way too
they had that more efficient electronic thermo control valve that cost them alot in warranty work and litigation vs
a standard thermostat..(that they went back to)
and owners at 1200-2k repair.
Although now the warranty has been extended to 15yr 150000 miles.
The part would/will eventually leak coolant internally and die.. every single one.. They updated the part to be more durable.. but its still
an issue. Hence the switch back to a thermostat in the 25 forester.

When I was shopping used GM vehicles of this style in 2024, things like these 'thermo control units' were one of the reasons I went with the LYX 1.5 equipped Equinox instead. Not that they are perfect by any means, but the LYX 1.5 has much less plastic and lots more room under the hood for activities. The 6AT and AWD components are super easy to service as well.
