2005 Chevy Classic, about 55K miles.

Just recently, the auto lock/unlock feature has stopped working. After the car is started and the shifter is moved out of Park, the doors would lock. When the ignition was turned off, the doors would unlock.

For a few days it was auto-locking but only the drivers door would unlock when the ignition was turned off.

Now, it neither locks or unlocks automatically. The door lock switch works fine as does the remote.

What would cause this?

This is a user-configurable setting, the owner's manual tells you how to change the auto-lock behavior.

I can think of two possibilities:

#1: Someone (unknown to you) has been playing with the settings

#2: The control module has somehow lost that part of it's memory and the settings have been changed as a result. Pretty unlikely but not impossible--they're not using ECC-server grade RAM in those things.

I'd suggest following the instructions in the owner's manual to change the auto-lock settings to the way you want them.

Yes, check the book/manual or maybe online. My car has the autolock when the car is in drive and going more than 3mph, of course, when you stop, it doesn't unlock the doors in the back, so I have to manually do this. I checked my manual and there was a series of turn key off, on, do this, do that, for 5 min, then boom, the horn sounded, letting me know it 'went' and it disabled this feature.

This is all user-configurable using the steering wheel buttons and display screen in my Avalanche. There's a number of whiz-bang options available.

My father in law's duramax diesel sierra slt adds options around setting high and low idle through the steering wheel buttons and computer screen.
