Chevron Supreme vs. Havoline

Ok, which is better. Chevron Supreme or Havoline 10w30.

I can find both, Havoline a little easier. But many have told me that Havoline is a little better. Since both are the same price, and Chevron has only been in my engine once. Which would you guys use? and Why?

If you can find Havoline easier, there's your answer. Both are good oils. I have used plenty of Havoline. Chevron is hard to find in the northeast.

They are from same oil company. Only your engine can tell the difference.

Both oil are excellent, Havoline is more enhanced in the area of anti-wear and detergency. BTW Chevron is already working on a proto-type ILSAC GF-5 for the Havoline line.

I have ran both in two different engines; a '97 Rodeo Sohc V6, and an '85 Toyota 22RE 4-cylinder p-up.

On the Rodeo, in regards to the 5w30, the Havoline made the engine quieter then the Chevron 5w30; in the 10w30 viscosity, Havoline was the choice for this particular engine's first 139k miles.

Have never ran 10w30 Chevron Supreme in this engine.

In the '85 Toyota, same thing, the 10w30 Havoline was used as the norm for the last 5 yrs - engine was rebuilt 5yrs ago - ran two rounds of 10w30 Chevron supreme this past summer, couldn't find a case of Havoline, and all I can say is that it used a very slight amount more then what it does with a 3k OCI on Havoline.

Need to note that the style and make-up of these engines naturally do not allow them to be quiet running; the two engines side by side sound like soft sewing machines.

I have never ran a 5w30 in the 22RE; it's too light of an oil for that engine for sure.

Both oils are very similar, buy the one that is cheaper

Both are very good but the Havoline is just a little better. Use either with confidence.

Ok. Im gonna stick with my Chevron until I can't find it anymore. But I understand that really the only difference is that Havoline has some magnesium in it. What does the magnesium really do for you?

I'd really like to see VOA's posted for both Havoline & Chevron Supreme using samples with recent date codes.

The reports on the used oil analysis forum are inconsistent - I'd like to see a post hurricane VOA that indicates the current additive levels.

In the past, the product data sheets have been identical, line for line, with the exception of TBN being .1 higher for Havoline.

If the TBN & sulfated ash are the same numbers, along with all the viscosity data, how can anyone claim that either Supreme or Havoline will provide better performance?
