Here's the first UOA I've had done on my friend's 1998 Nissan Altima. This oil was used for the rinse phase of an Auto-RX treatment and was in service from May 1, 2005 to August 20, 2005. The car has seen irregular oil changes with who-knows-what kind of oils throughout its life. The car sees an 8- to 12-mile city street commute each weekday, plus errands on the weekends and a 80+ mile trip (each way) every six weeks or so.

I figured a good first step would be to clean up the engine with Auto-RX and start doing some UOAs to establish a baseline.

I refilled the engine with green GC and LC20 and hope to go 7,500 miles before changing the oil and filter again. I've sent the report to Terry for his analysis.

I'm wondering why Butler didn't give me the viscosity of the used oil; I know I didn't spring for a TBN, but I thought that I'd get the used viscosity reading with their basic analysis. Of course, I've been traveling for work and haven't had a chance to call them and ask, so I'll let folks know what Butler has to say after I call them.

Si seems high to me, which may have caused the elevated Pb, but the Pb might be from the cleaning action of the Auto-RX. The paper air filter (Purolator) had been in service for a little under 20K, but it didn't look bad at all when I replaced it. I'm relying on Terry to tell me if I need to hunt for a leak in the intake that's letting dirt through.

I'm not sure about the trace of water, either. The engine had a chance to cool a bit before I could take the oil sample, so I'm thinking that it may be from condensation, but this is another question I've posed to Terry.

I got my analysis from Terry just a few minutes after I posted this. I'd forgotten that a trace of water means that they can't run the viscosity test, but Terry reminded me.
