Chevron, Havoline, Valvoline

Hi, I am trying to recomend a good conventional oil for my friend's trucks, a 1997 Ford Expedition and a 1999 F150 with the small V8. I was going to have him get 10w30 Chevron Supreme from Costco but it looks like they may not be caring it anymore (along with the Chevron ATF that I like so much).

Is Havoline or Valvoline the same oil as the Chevron Supreme? I thought I read somewhere that Chevron made one of these???

Chevron and Havoline are made by Chevron-Texaco. Nothing wrong with Chevron or Havoline. All other things being equal get the GF-4 variety.

Good recomedation on 10w30 for hot southern Florida climate.

Havoline can be found at Advance Auto and now at all my local Autozones. Chevron can be had at Checker/Schuchs/Kragen.

Havoline is on sale at Advance, I think for $1.08 with rebate. But, it ends April 2nd.

i was told by guy that works at advance auto their "house brand" oil was havoline. any truth to that?

my dad usues chevron dello400 in his 97 f-150 and loves it. i tried to get him to switch ot a synthetic but he dosn't want to. whatever.

AAP oil is not made by Havoline. If you look on the bottle it even says its not. I have been to many forums that many people have asked the same question and to no avil noone can tell us where or who makes it. But its not havoline.

Even though people have done VOA on both Havoline and Chevron Supreme and they both appear to be the same and are produced by the same company, The used oil analysis are very different. Chevron Supreme is one of the very few conventional oils that does not thin out. Havoline definitely does thin out. Past that difference the wear numbers appear to be better to me with the Chevron.
Now we enter SM GF4 oils. These may be a completely different animal. We need used oil analysis on both before we judge these two for sure.

Speaking purely from my own personal experience, I can tell you that Havoline 5w-20 stayed solidly in grade for nearly 5,000 miles with some fairly tough use (road course track use)during that interval.

One vote for havoline 5w20. I like it for ford modulars.

I'll third that for Havoline 5w-20 staying in grade. Just about any 5w30 conventional will shear somewhat, including Chevron Supreme.

Someone on the board wrote Chevron and asked if Havoline was the same oil. They replied that they were different, but very similar formulations.
