This is the dino Chevron, purchased in early 2012 roughly. I previously planned to test every 50k. But with the heavy towing on this cycle (~3000 pounds over 1100 miles for the EJ25 4 cyl), I tested earlier. Not ideal to run 6500 miles, was boneheaded. But the oil held up. Sample was taken just after reaching the tow destination in December. PureOne oil filter and generic air filter that I inspect and clean often but don't replace often. Previous tests were on Quake State Ultimate Durability and Mobil Super 5000.

Blackstone text: You mentioned some heavy towing for this motor, so we expected maybe a little extra iron in this sample. Or maybe some lead or aluminum. But all three metals still look very good. Sure, aluminum did go up 1 ppm since last time, but that's so minor it's hardly worth noting. And besides, it's still perfectly average even on a longer-than-average run. No contamination was found in this sample, the TBN was still okay at 1.5, and the low silicon and insolubles readings show proper air and oil filtration. Really, not a bad report
overall. No obvious issues to report here.

That's an excellent Dino oil but looking like time to change looking at the TBN. Also some Subaru engines can be a bit higher on Iron so good there as well.

The more I see of this oil, the more impressed I am. Towing 3000 miles with a 4 cylinder? That's a workout! This is a well balanced oil with a nice slug of moly. You did pretty well use it up with TBN down to 1.5.

I see this oil on sale at Costco all the time for about $2.15/qt. I wouldn't hesitate to use it in any conventional application.

Excellent report! I wonder how similar (or not) Chevron labled oils are to Havoline.

I'm beginning to wonder what the real benefits are to using a full synthetic! This report looks as good as any I've seen. Sure, he didn't rum 10k+ miles on it but considering he probably only paid around $16 for the stuff I think he got the better deal!

You found that 1 dollar a quart of oil is capable of a 6.5K run under in a more taxing situation than normal. IMO.

If I were in this situation I would just change every 7K and not worry about a thing.
