I recently came across a Cherry G83-6644 keyboard at work in a storage closet, and have started using it with my computer. I was surprised to see that it was made in Germany. I know a lot of you have spoken about Cherry keyboards in the past, but I've never paid much attention until now.

Are all Cherry keyboards mechanical? I understand that they're known for their MX keyboard switches, but I don't know if all of them have these. I understand some of the switches have no tactile feedback, so although this keyboard doesn't feel a ton different from the HP and Dell smart keyboards we also have here, it actually might be.

Yes/no?

The G83 series are rubber-dome keyboards. They aren't bad, as I understand, but the mechanical-switch Cherry keyboards are the G80 series. If the storage closets don't deliver, I use and like a couple of the Rosewill mechanical keyboards from Newegg (which are rebranded Filco's, or at least were).

Thanks. The keyboard definitely feels better than the standard cheapo membrane keyboards that come with these computers. It's not a TON of difference, but certainly enough to notice. I like that it's not made in China. I didn't know you could buy a German-made keyboard. Will have to keep Cherry on my list for future purchases.

You have a G81 series keyboard, not the OP's G83 series. The MY switches are mechanical, and the keycaps will fit the MX switches, but generally the MY gets no love.

Sorry to be pedantic, but I researched the heck out of mechanical keyboards a few years ago, and bought more than I'd care to admit. I'm typing this on some Cherry MX browns with soft o-rings to quiet them down

Yea, yo u're right. I actually have never used aside from once just to see how they felt, I normally use a HappyHacking board amongst others.
