Check Gas Cap

Called the Honda dealer nearest to me.
If they would have had one in stock, it would have been $46 and change.
Got on ebay, and a Honda dealer in LA is selling the OEM cap for $32.99 with free shipping.
It is either that, or roll the dice on this:

At any rate, I'll hold off for a few days and see if the car will reset by itself. No gaskets or anything on the cap to clean or adjust, so I will probably end up replacing it anyway. Only question is which one.

Should have an O-ring as the seal, I like to rub a little engine oil on the O-ring for a better seal. ;)

Got an evap code on my Mitsubishi about two months ago. Bought a new aftermarket cap at AutoZone. Reset the code with my cheapo scan reader and no problem since. A simple $10 fix.

I'm positive it has a gasket. Maybe that's part of your problem...

What gasket there is, is fixed up under the threads.
There is a picture of the back under the "New GENIUE" cap posting on ebay.
Makes me kind of nervous when they can't spell "Genuine" correctly.

See....multiple occurrences with multiple SUCCESSFUL approaches.
Do this stuff (flip the gasket, lube the gasket, try the bag trick, clean the contact surfaces etc.), clear the code and note the time it takes to come back.
Having to go to a parts store to use their reader before drawing a breath is too time and mileage wasteful for me.

Yes, that's the gasket. Is it soft or hard ? It should definitely be on the softer side and if it's not, that could be the issue. You could try lubricating it with a silicone spray or even a very thin layer of something like Sil-Glyde.

I saw multiple gas caps, claiming to be Honda OEM, on eBay and the super low prices do concern me. I mean, I know dealer prices can be high but $13 vs $40+ ? That sounds too cheap, too good to be true.

On that cap, it is hard to get at the gasket (especially if you have big fingers.)
Since I have both silicone spray and Sil-glyde, I decided I didn't have anything to lose.
I gave it a spray with the silicone , and coated what I could get to with some sil-glyde.
What I could get at, appears to be pliable. Hopefully, this rectifies the problem (but I'm generally not that lucky.)
The cheapest that I could find from a legit Honda dealer on ebay was $32.99. That's about 30% off of list.
While anything is possible, I'm not sure that it is probable that an OEM cap is obtainable for $13., even if it was the actual cap from Honda's suppliers not run through Honda's parts network.

My sister just happened to stop by right now so I snapped a pic of the gasket I flipped, no issues since. It's 2012 Accord with 96k miles.

I cleaned up the gas cap gasket with a scotch brite pad and put on a small amount of Sil-glide. I also sanded the steel filler neck a little to minimize nicks from the gas pump filler.

Update: Just put 75 miles on the car.
It no longer advises me to check the gas cap.
I have plenty of Silicone spray and Sil-Glyde.
I'll do that until it is no longer effective.
Thanks everyone.
