Apparently that alternator was only made for Buick and Pontiac. None of those are in the salvage at this time.

I could've saved a ton of money if I had bought one when I didn't need it.

Do you have a preference between AutoZone and NAPA rebuilds?

I wanted it to say 'Delphi' on the front of the alternator for that OEM look. Only the rebuilds come with the Delphi housing.

I can't believe this. I go down to NAPA and get an alternator. Get home and put it on. One of the bolts didn't feel right as was tightening it. I thought maybe I should oil the threads which I did. On closer examination, the part of the casting where the bolt goes through was broke off. Back to NAPA I go. They said the earliest they could get another one was Tuesday. I said no thank you very politely and got the money back.

Tomorrow I'm off to AutoZone. There's two stores within a 100 mile radius that each have one.

Meanwhile during this whole saga, I'm having to watch the volt meter as I drive because I'm on battery power only.

Driving at night definitely shortens the trip because the car will not allow me to turn the headlights off.

I've changed my mind again. Now I'm looking at a brand new Bosch from RockAuto. Lifetime Warranty.

It won't say DELPHI on it, so I guess I'll have to live with that.

The alternator saga is over. The brand new Bosch alternator is a sight to behold. Absolutely beautiful.

I put a RockAuto Bosch alternator in Jetta I used to commute in and it was great.
