Yep, not much to talk about. I just like oil talk. So, anyways, I'm changing the 2000 Trans Am WS.6 from it's 160k life of Mobil1 5w30 to some GC. I am becoming less and less impressed (not that I ever was) with M1 5w30. I'm just going to see how the GC does in it, but I may put it on a diet of M1 0W-40. I like it's wear results, and it shears down to a good 30 weight.

If you are consuming oil, the GC will work out MUCH better. M1 0w-40 is another obvious choice, but unless you try GC you'll "never know".

Gc holds up pretty well in my rsx i rev it to 8800 rmps daily burns very little oil and engine is alot quieter even with poly motor mounts

That RSX-S engine normally burns oil like crazy. I covered this subject on clubrsx.com when I had one. Mobil 1 5w30 is a bzzt on that one.

GC did a [censored] job on my LS1. I used it for a long time and wear was through the roof! Lately I have been using Rotella T Syn 5w40 and wear dropped a lot except copper went up. I'm now trying Pennzoil Platnum but don't have a UOA of it yet. Do a search of my user ID and read up on my Ls1 Uoa's. I'm extreemly dissapointed in GC and no longer buy into the hype......it's [censored] oil for an LS1.

Most VTEC engines do, especially when they're driven as intended.

Your one of the few I've heard of with these results, but I am NOT denying them or calling [censored], just saying it does not seem to be very often that LSx owners have any problems with GC.
Maybe I will just stick with good ol' Red Line?!

Yeah, I've seen too much good on GC to not use it. ChrisB., I thank you for the heads up, but at the same time, your engine shows horrible wear. I don't know if it's fuel dilution causing it, or if someone is just bogging it around at 1000RPM in overdrive or 6th gear or what. Babying is ok... but the LS1 was not meant to be babied.

Did you get your fuel dilution problem fixed? WOT will get the fuel out of the oil.

With 160k on your LS1, hasn't the M1 5w30 been proven to be doing a good job?

I know they're very good engines, and 160K on one isn't out of the norm I'd bet.

But if it's doing well, why change?

Really because I think M1 5w30 is the bastrd child of all of Mobil1's products. Quite arguably the worst oil they make. And, a woman drives it, so it's not beaten on. Yellow bottle Pennzoil could have gotten it here, too, imo. But, also, it does have some bad top end chatter when half throttle or more passed 3k RPM. Doesn't sound good. Maybe M1 hasn't done it's job.

But, really, I think ANY engine with decent OCI's can make it as far as this one has came.

I had a 1996 Accord EX, 4-cylinder VTEC. It never burned a drop of oil in the 12 years I had it. Never had to add oil either between my 7500 mile or 6 month OCI. I didn't drive it hard but when I had to put the foot down, I did not hesitate.

We presently have a 2006 Odyssey EX-L, iVTEC. OK, I'm not going to push it often. In the 27K miles driven, hasn't burned oil either. Never had to add oil..

I think you're mistaken. I didn't put 160K miles on a Trans Am. I just said that I had 2 cars with VTEC motors and they never burned a drop of oil..

Don't know how that says or implies what you think I said.

My bad. I should have put it in quotes. I was talking to Jaymus.

That's what I'm saying. Anything can get a car to 160k, as long as you change it when it's supposed to.

Maybe but will it matter? Not including the engines that require syn oil or special operation modes where syn would be a benefit. There are probably more engines getting long lives with dino than syn oil.But then more engines run dino.
