Changing oil with cartridge filter

My new to me Fusion has the same set up. I didn't remove the plug, so it is a little messy. Short answer, no .

No drain bolt on my cartridge filter setup. I just loosen up the cap, wait for the majority of the oil to drain down to the oil pan, and then lift the cap (with the cartridge attached to it).

You are talking about the drain bolt in the filter cap I assume. I drain the oil pan first and then remove the oil drain bolt in the cartridge cover to drain the cartridge housing. Then I place a plastic zip-lock type bag over the housing and remove the housing cover. My cartridge comes with two O-Rings which I always replace and torque the cover to spec.

I don't pull the drain bolt on my Mazda 3 setup. I just pop it open and let it flow. I actually like the cartridge. I can examine the particles if any that are embedded in the filter media.
