I replaced all the gear oil, diffs & t-case on Saturday. I went with Lubro Moly 75W90 VollSynthese. I was suprised to see that the RL that had been in there for about 8,000 miles was extremely black and seemed to shimmer with silver metal flakes as it was draining. I don't know if this LM is going to be "the best" but I used it because it was very good. After seeing the condition today, I think I'll run the LM for 5,000 miles and do a used oil analysis on it. I wanted a used oil analysis today, but wasn't prepared to take one as I was dropping the fluid. Incedentaly, the diffs are very easy to change fluid on. Land Rover actually put a drain plug on the underside of the diff. Brilliant!
I was also suprised at the absolute colorless Lubro Moly gear oil. I guess I am used to seeing all types of oil with some color. This gear oil had absolutely no color, you could see right through it. It looked like the Karo syrup my momma used to use to make tastey things with at Christmas.
