Changed Oil Pan on 2019 Hyundai, very clean engine.

My girlfriend's 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe had a crack in the oil pan by the drain plug. I was able to replace the oil pan, and I must say, that the bottom end of the engine was VERY clean.

I change the oil and filter about every 5-6K miles using either Supertech or Kirkland 0W-20 oil. The Hyundai has 87K miles and it 7.5 years old.

There was absolutely no sign of any sludge in the bottom of the oil pan.

No need for fancy boutique oil and filter.

Bottom end is the last place sludge will form. It is always wet with oil and cooler upon shut down. Underside of pistons would be one place where you could see build-up and the top end of the engine where the oil runs off and heat rises (IE Stays hotter longer). Plus PCV pulling vapors up there to bake on.

I realize that, but also I have pulled oil pans before that the bottom of the pan was full of sludge. The bottom of this pan was beautifully clean.

Me too. While I am sure Amsoil, Pennzoil Platinum, Mobil 1 Extended Performance, Royal Purple, etc., are good oils, the claims they make are lets just say, ludicrous.

No, I have never had to add oil until this oil pan crack happened. I have found that changing oi land filter every 5K miles is a good interval for having an engine last a really long time.

This thread is really just Variation #23 on the "all oils are the same" theme. It doesn't take into account any consideration of specific engine design and operating conditions, it just assumes what they see or observe is universally applicable to everything.

2.4L naturally aspirated engine. People have complained about Hyundai's dreaded GDI engine, but this one has been rock solid. The only thing I have ever done repair-wise is this oil pan.

I can't see the bottom end being super clean, no sludge at all in the pan and the top end being dirty and nasty.
