This is our beater with 211k miles.

IDK when the cabin air filter was last changed, but it was pretty nasty. Was Hyundai OE, and had a nice plastic frame around it.
Air filter in car was OEM - also unsure when last changed - didn't look too bad, but went ahead and changed it anyway...Lots of debris/leaves/sand was vacuumed from air box. Felt good doing that.

The new Mann seems very well made, and fit tight and nice.

I used Mann for both filters, and both were US made;
changing the cabin AF was a real PITA as getting the glove box clips and retainer was extremely annoying; after that all went quick...

(I also changed the power steering fluid partially with MaxLife ATF which meets Hyundai req'd specs for PS fluid) using the mighty vac, but even after swapping out 1.25 qts (and turning steering wheel lock to lock each time), the fluid was still darkish/brown - I ran out of time, but will complete later. Hopefully the 3 qts of new MaxLife ATF i have left will be enough to replace most of the old PS fluid - it was a slow process...perhaps turkey baster would have been faster.)

A few pics I took during filter(s) change the process:

I changed my air and cabin filter in my 2011 Sonata. That looked the same dirty and leaves in it. Ever since then it has been running better so glad I changed it.

the turkey baster method is the way to go. Just devote 10 minutes every weekend to it until the fluid looks clear.

and I feel ya with the cabin filter. I had to take out the glovebox and act like plasticman on my moms Pilot to change it....the cabin filter on my wifes T&C took all of 20 seconds.

Yeah MightyVac was overkill, I think and the fluid extraction was a lot slower than through a disptick which is not open like the PS reservoir...

Any good turkey basters that are specifically designed for extracting auto fluids?
Do auto parts stores have them, or shall I just get a regular kitchen turkey baster from amazon for like $5?

The cabin filter change on the Hyundai's I've owned is easy. That's might be a 3 minute job if you get lost.

I'd say do 2-3 D&F for the PS fluid for now and then every oil change. It gets dirty quickly. (FWIW, I also D&F the brake fluid every OC).

The Elantra was an easy car to maintain.

Use the turkey baster that's in your kitchen. Soak in Dawn afterwards and put back in drawer.

I just use a Soft Soap pump after it's run out of soap. Rinsed before hand of course. Does a decent job but pretty slow.

Bought a heat-resistant turkey baster on Amazon for $5.50 incl. shipping

- it had some reviews about using it for sucking out PS fluid - exactly what I was looking for...

and also got a bottle of Lubeguard PSF conditioner, just for the heck of it. (that was about $6.50 incl shipping)

If you want something better than a turkey baster, go to Carquest and buy one of their suction guns. They are about as big as a grease gun, and when you pull the handle, you quickly remove fluid and it doesn't spill back out.

Just hit the dollar store for a cheap $1.00 turkey baster...they should have them in stock now!

Got one from walmart

- the amazon one came damaged, but full refund (incl. s/h) was processed within 6 hrs of complaint e-mail to CS. Nice/fast CS, at least.

It's freezing outside today...might try to do some more PSF swap when I can get the car in the garage in a day or two- (which means when wife's car is gone/when she's at work; I don't feel good about starting the bimmer just to move it out of the garage and back)
