Change oil after GM intake gasket changed?

My 2002 Grand Am had the intake gaskets go. I dropped the car off at the dealer as soon as I noticed (the low coolant light went off) and really did the minimal amount of driving with the leak.

When I dropped it off, the service advisor said that the oil will be changed after the gasket is replaced as part of the procedure to get rid of any coolant in it.

My question is: Should I change the oil again early and at what milage? Should I change the filter too?

I just got the head and intake gasket changed on my GM '98 3.4L about 6 weeks ago.
You definitly want an oil changed since coolant leaked in the oil, as the dealer did for this type of service work.
I have no idea what exaclty my dealer used for this OCI, but I kept it for about 2500km and dumped it. Gald I did.... droped like water.. idle has been much better since I put decent oil in it..

John What engine did your grand Am have?
What was the mileage and maintenence

pbm, it's a 2002 Grand Am GT with the 3.4L engine (same as in their minivans). The engine has 45000km (28k miles) and had oil changes between 4500 and 6000 km (2800 and 3750 miles). Various 5W30 conventional oils were used with various filters. The only other work ever done on the car was the front brake pads being replaced a few months ago.

I'm thinking of switching to a synthetic in the fall for the upcoming winter, but want to know if everyone suggests changing it again soon because of possible contamination with coolant.

One thing to note is that there were no signs of coolant in the oil - the oil level was fine and no residue caused from coolant on the oil cap or dipstick.

Our 99 Olds Silhouette which uses the same engine had the same problem around the same milage. It had similar maintanence.
