I usually change my oil at around 7 to 8K on my 06-V6 Toy 4Runner running a synthetic either Shell or PP. I now have 5K on the current oil and I am going to be towing my 5,000 LB camper aprox 2,000 miles in the next week and it will be hot. I will be working the truck hard so do you think I should let the oil run the full time of my usual 7 to 8K or do an early oil change? I guess I am a little worried from reading someplace that oil that has some miles and is heat cycled can leave lots of deposits or sludge in the areas of the engine?

I would not worry about anything. I would change at your normal interval. What you are doing sounds like normal driving to me and I do around 7K OCI'S on conventional and I still have some "wiggle" room to extend further if I chose too.

+1 - no worries; I do that all the time with no problems.

Syn in there? I wouldn't be very worried unless your engine tends to shear the heck out of everything.

If it makes you feel good then do it. Why not? Cheap insurance. But honestly I don't think you have much to worry about.

I would imagine that 5k is a bit heavy for a 4runner, so be safe.

I'd be more interested in coolant and a brake fluid flush.

I would change it, fresh oil and filter, pulling a 5K trailer for 2K, no brainer

With synthetic oil I would not worry at those miles. I tow frequently, but within the local area, and oil has never been an issue. Do keep an eye on the oil level, but I see no reason to change early.

Like JHZR2 said, check the coolant. My truck turns about 3000 RPM +/-500 when towing on the interstate (OD off), so the engine temp is around 200-204F instead of the usual 195-200F. Not a big difference, but you absolutely want to be sure your cooling system is in good shape before demanding that much out of it.

Engine oil would be about 4th on my list of things to worry about if I was looking at a 2k towing trip.

Brake fluid
Transmission fluid
Coolant
Engine oil

But I am sure OP already has all those bases covered already.
