I found this info at Champion Labs' site after noticing that they make the Mobil 1 filters.

http://www.champlabs.com/ECOREBROCHURE.pdf

It looks to me like they are making better use of the available space in the filter. The nylon core looks like a good idea, but it only addresses one possible method of filter contamination during the manufacturing process. Comments?

A lot of interesting information here. I can't wait to cut one apart. I wonder if this filter design will be applied to all Champion labs products or not.

Pretty cool

I like the fact they're thinking out of the box and using some new technology.

I'll try the PH8A version as soon as I find one.

If it involves production savings, of course! Assume the technology's being tested on all you early adopter guinea pigs.

Looks like a good current technology improvement to me...wonder how much they will cost? I don't think companies would make a major change on something that most people would never see unless there is a major defect in the current version or some legal/EPA (in this case) upgrade required...I think the text at the end of the article is probably the reason this is being done.

"Because of Ecore’s advanced design and
easier material segregation, it is better poised
to address future recycling and disposal
requirements developed by state and federal
environmental agencies."

If this is the reason, other mfgrs will probably follow suit soon....

I find it rather interesting that they mention you get a better seal between the filter media and non-metal endcaps.

"Thermally bonded non-metallic endcaps"?? Is this statement by Champion Labs ammo for the Fram people?

Sounds like Champion is using what Denso/Toyoda Boshoku is using as a combo ADBV/BV on Toyota's 90915-YZZBx filters, and what the German makers are using for their filters...

It's obvious that some thoughtfullness went into this filter design. The "nylon core" seems reasonable. Not sure about the "non-metallic end caps". More importantly, it has essentially the same approach to ADBV centering and support as a Fram (which I don't care for). And I question how tightly bypass operation can be controlled with only rubber.

I agree with your points, but until I can actually cut one apart, I don't want to judge anything. Implementation is everything.
