I don't know what this tells us but this made in China Champ oil filter was on my daughters car for just about 12k miles. This wasn't intended. We try for 5-6k oci's. This is off a 99 MB ML 320 with 250k miles on it. I was surprised that there were no tears in it as I had forgotten what we had put in it. I replaced it with the proper Mann filter. Picture has the new filter beside it. Purchased cheap at RA.

Not surprising. Late 60's and 70's oil filters were changed every second oil change interval which meant 10 - 15,000 miles on the filter. Filters that tear are very poorly made filters. This ain't rocket science.

I was under the impression that Mercedes-Benz has incorporated a fleece material element on these engines?

Years ago I changed the filter every other oil change and never had an issue. Most of the time then I was only doing 3-4K mile intervals. After I started doing 5K mile intervals on my '88 Escort there were times I only changed the filter every other oil change

If you are going to strictly use the maintenance minder system, you should use a fleeced filter especially under warranty. Her's is broken and we don't use it. I am surprised that filter held up as well as it did.
