Cerma vs Mobil 1

I noticed this video comparing Cerma Motor Oil with M1.
Of course he was using a "one armed bandit" Timken set-up.

I noticed when he opened and poured the M1,there was no foil seal.

My reply to this video was... "Why no foil seal when you opened up the Mobil 1..Not accusing you of anything, but how do we know that was real Mobil 1 in that bottle...."

His reply.."Dave, I agree that if someone wanted to make a fake test they could put other oil in Mobil 1 jug and say it was not so good, Although in our testing we would be hard pressed to find any other motor oil that would fail as fast as seen on this video, so changing the oil even to sams club 2.79 oil would have shown better protection. Just my personal opinion."

Any thoughts on this...Mobil 1 is very good quality oil IMO,just hate to see it bashed this way..

Well, when you can't even spell Mobil...........

But yes, let's use a gear oil test on an engine oil. While we are at it, maybe we can use a hammer to drive some screws into some drywall and a howitzer to hunt some deer.

Yeah, not convinced. How can you take a video serious when it opens with something like this:

Also like that Cash guy mentioning the 90-day satisfaction warranty. As if you'd actually be able to see that kind of wear in that time period. Or maybe I'm just suspicious of everything I see on Youtube.

Mobil 1 quarts don`t have the foil seal,only the plastic lid ring seal.

They also did an Amsoil vs Cerma,and the Amsoil did VERY well!

RP (the synerlec version) with its boat loads of sulfur would steal the show.

Maybe we could try some Mobil 1 gear oil next?

Disclaimer: I'm am not a Mobil 1 fan.
Overkill has hit the nail on the head. This type of test does not represent anything that actually happens in a modern engine and just isn't a valid way to prove anything.
And the oil is right out of the bottle,cold. Which again isn't representing anything accurately. And everyone knows that common anti-wear agents like zddp need heat to be effective.
Now we can beat up on Mobil all day long and personally I look for reasons too and take aim however in this particular situation the vid(which I refuse to even watch because the whole 1 armed bandit testing procedure is a joke,and I will not add to the view counter stat)is a joke.
Mobil may not make the very best oil in earth however their marketing machine and volume are the juggernaut to beat in the oil game.
They make a product in each segment that is always of good quality and their track record speaks for itself.
Yes there are other blenders that in my opinion make a better oil than Mobil however they are either very hard to find or are so outrageously expensive that its not cost effective for the average joe like me to use.
No matter if you love Mobil or hate em they are the team to beat in the oil game. They have the marketing machine that has a budget larger than most small blenders total take in a year,they have the resources and manpower to engineer and test their products vs the competition with tear downs for sure,so they know exactly how each lube will perform in every possible application and are never flying blind.
Sopus has them beat with this GTL stuff however it's just not catching on in the market with us laymen.
Perception is equal to truth and the general public perceives Mobil to come from the oil gods,so the Mobil marketing is certainly achieving its mandate and in all truth Mobil makes a good product and a person really can't go wrong using it however that can also be said for pennzoil and valvoline as well.
I will give Mobil their due when it comes to their 0w-40. It is the oil and if I had to pick one oil to use in everything that would be it. It can be used in such a broad range of gas and diesel apps that it truly is an everything oil,and its proven over the years it's ability to handle high heat,big hp,cold flow,high revs etc. And handle extended drains to boot all while keeping an engines innards spotless.
German Castrol is another one of those everything oils(my opinion).
Anyways love it or hate it Mobil is a permanent fixture in the oil game.

I`d love to see some manual transmission GL4`s on the Timken machine,especially Amsoil MTG vs Redline MT90. That`d be really interesting!

This test is great for the uninformed general public. It does not matter that it is not a realistic representation of what happens inside an engine. If this demonstration triggers an impulse purchase and makes the vendor money then the test was a success from the point of view of the vendor selling his product. There are so many problems with this test one would hardly know where to begin from what's really in the bottles to ignoring temperatures and pressures and contamination inside a working engine. If you want some really eye popping numbers then try your wife's laundry bleach. Just don't put in the family car.
