Ceramic window cleaner . will it replace glass coating like rain x etc?

I started using Mothers CMX Ceramic coating on my vehicles. If you get any over spray on the glass, plastic headlight / taillight lenses, or flat black trim, it doesn't effect it, and wipes right off. Just for kicks I did the windshield on my Toyota with it, and found that dried, crusty, bug juice comes off MUCH easier. Same with the bumper and headlight lenses.
Finally tried out my CMX on my new to me 05 Escalade. I did a quick 2 stage polish then sprayed that stuff all over. I didn't care if it got on the glass, trim, plastics, just let it do its thing.

Who knows how long it will last but it does nothing negative to these surfaces and likely is helping them shed water.

Just not having to worry about wax getting on things it shouldn't is enough to switch to CMX.

I believe that you gotta use what works best for ya.
In one test(Youtube video), Rain-X did better than Aquapel against wiper chattering.
In another completely different Youtube video test, it was visa-versa.
I've seen some Youtube video test where the Youtuber used Nu-Finish on the windshield and this was their preference.

Stoner's has one too. I usually just use whatever LSP I'm using on glass. I haven't used a dedicated glass sealant. I don't think they're worth it from the reviews I've seen. Wipers really knock them down too.

You might have something there. My brief experience with a ceramic windshield product was that it worked pretty well for a short time then the wipers started to smear and chatter. What I have done is to use the ceramic stuff on the rear hatch. Hatchback windows just attract dirt. This seems to help a little but it’s not a permanent solution. I use regular windshield cleaner in the reservoir.

When it gets colder the chatter and smearing increased until I cleaned everything off and started fresh with new wiper blades and solution. It has been good since then.

I don't have direct experience with any dedicated glass sealant, but from what I've read they all seem to be average at best. Climate will also be a factor in longevity. I've used Griot's 3 in 1, Opti-Seal and Wet Coat on glass and they worked well enough IMO. I can't speak to these newer products though. The reviews I've seen haven't been anything to brag about. 🤷‍♂️

Maybe I'll try the Stoner's one.

Yep.

The sulfuric acid ingredient is interesting. Used as a etching agent. Apparently it makes for a good glass cleaner. It must be an alternative to ammonia?
When a dealership applies a window etch, hydrofluoric acid or ammonium bifluoride is used to etch the stencil on. It’s also an ingredient in “chrome/mag” wheel cleaner as well. It breaks through certain contaminates - HF is also used to decontaminate silicon wafers during the fabrication process.

I’m experimenting with Gyeon Can Coat on a panoramic moonroof. If it holds up, I’ll be safe using it on glass. My current glass treatment of choice is Aquapel. Rain-X I’ll use in a pinch but it sucks.

Lately when I go through the local scratch and shine, I’ve been using their ultimate wash that has a ceramic paint protector - it seems to do a decent job beading up water on glass. https://kaady.com/news/2020-07-29-article

It will be interesting to hear how that holds up. More and more automobiles are coming out with panoramic roofs and the presence of water spots or any dirt buildup will be noticeable.
