Wear pattern on the cheese head screws would indicate that there's a cover, that's been removed more than a few times...pipe to the centre of the cover with relativeley large bolts makes me think oil pipe to said centrifugal filter. Guessing that there's a fairly hefty step-up to a pinion about the centre of the assembly.

The instruments have been shown in the instrument thread. Here is a pic of the top end.

They are called cheese head for a reason, I've only had it off twice before. The crank drives through the camshaft to the clutch, makes for a big engine for it's size. The oil pump is the alloy gear below.

It's a 1974 Moto Guzzi Stornello 160. I bought it brand new in 1978...actually with some mates we got 5 of them for $3,000. Last registered for road use in 1988, and it last ran over 10 years ago - it's been stored with Aegis Gold synthetic oil. I put in a tank liner, cleaned the carb and it fired up after a few kicks. I don't have the money to restore it, so it's just a strip and rebuild with rattle can touch ups. It's cheap rego for a 40 year old vehicle here, but as it's been off the radar for over 25 years it will need a reVIN, which isn't cheap.

After all these years of not knowing how 8 of these bikes came to NZ, I've finally found the guy who imported them.

I'm having a look at the clutch on my Honda TLR200, also a centrifugal filter, and thought a look at the difference in primary drive would be interesting. The wide helical gears on the Guzzi are overkill, and make the narrow 13mm spur gear of the Honda look cheap and nasty...if you could see it in my bad photo. The Guzzi holds 2 litres of oil, the Honda 1.
