OK I have to ask: we've gone from !@#$%^& over to ________ and then over to [censored]. What's next?

English has a large vocabulary. There are many different ways to say things without using offensive language. Think of it as an opportunity to expand your knowledge.

That said, I don't understand why the Christian deity is censored. I understand no religion and politics on the board, but those threads get shut down pretty quickly. When someone wants to pray to Allah (for lack of an uncensored term) for another member's cancer, I don't see how that is offensive.

I'm assuming you're talking about Y'shua? How many people who use vulgarity and swearing swear to other deities? If people start posting "Allah" or "Buddha" in a swearing, irreverent context, then those deities' names will be added to the censor list.

The generic word for the Deity is censored for the same reason. I actually removed that word from the censor list and as soon as someone posted "----! Someone help me!" as the title to a post, people started complaining. So the word went back in the censor list.

Since the censor can't detect appropriate and inappropriate use of a word, use of the Deity's names are all or nothing.

G-Man, I fully understand what you're saying and the reasoning behind it. I agree that inappropriate language should not be allowed, but do you not see the insult to a large portion of the board members that this position creates? Reverse the situation and our members of the Islamic, Buddhist, Hindu, or other faiths would be insulted also, and rightly so. I'm pretty sure the names of the most common religious figures are well known to the mods and admins. It should not be a major undertaking to create an equitible situation in regard to censoring of religious names. In other words, really all or none.

rridddle, board software is quite limited. This isn't a database that can be easily customized...it only gives general all or nothing options.

Boards obviously don't see morality, only ASCII text. It's up to the people to properly behave behind the keyboard, not up to the software to shield their behavior from everyone else.

It's not a 100% ideal situation no matter how you look at it.

Okay, Allah and Buddha are now in the censor list. Happy?
