cell phone update: Nokia rocks!

Yep, Nokia brick phones are the best... thought I got a deal on a motorola razr, so I bought it to give it a try (I use t-mobile,so I can stick the card into whatever phone I want and never need an activation)... and I REALLY like it! Reception gives my ericsson r520m and my nokia brick a run for the money, though the battery needs to get cycled a few times for me to seehow good it is...

It has a few too many gadgets for me, but all in all is a really nice phone. The only phone out there deservant of my money, as compared to the nokia brick... IMO.

Really, I had no idea they'd begun putting FM radio in cell phones- shows what I know, huh?

Hmm...I'm pretty sure my 2 yrs is up, mebbe I should see if Alltel wants to keep me badly enough to throw in one of those phones if I sign up for another year or two.

The tiny flip phones sure look cute, but most of 'em seem too fiddly & too fragile for long-term real world use to me. Lotsa people seem to love 'em though.

EDIT: FM radio: does it use standard 1/8" stereo mini-jack headphones, or does it require some kind of proprietary Nokia-only big-$$ headphones?

^ Depends on the technology. In the past, Nokia has never been that great with CDMA. Nokia is one of most recognized brands in the world. They seem to have gotten better. I purchased one for my wife, and she hasn't had problems yet -- after 5 months of use.

The old Ericsson was the best in terms of signal quality, they made most of the tower equipment and has the best signal with their phone (obviously).

Nokia is not far behind as their technologies are usually more mature and less cutting edge. They also buy most of their technologies on the market based on quality of the time, instead of building and using whatever is in-house regardless of maturity.

Out of all the phone I used, nothing works better than my Nokia brick. I still keep it in case I travel to places with bad reception.

update:

you guys might remember my dilemma with getting new LG flip phones and them not getting a signal like the Nokia bricks we had...

well, after sending them back and getting the old Nokias reactivated, we decided to give the newer Nokia brick a try, and it's GREAT! Just like the old Nokia model, crystal clear reception in the sticks! always 3 bars!

It has a bunch of features incl. camera/video, and FM radio etc, which we'll not use much, but the build-quality is superb, and has a great cutomamizable LCD display...and unlike Verizon, alltel lets you edit the banner on the display which I find great. (Although the camera is not an interest of our, one of my friends who played with it commented on how good the quality of the pics are compared to his Ericsson, and this one has high-mid-night quality settings, which surprised him.)

Nokia rocks. I had the bar styled phone for 2 years and then bought an "updated" Motorola V3 and a V330 (work phone). The v3 has horrible reception compared to the Nokia and has a VERY slow interface on both phones. On top of that, the earpiece speaker sounds like someone is talking through a pillow. The V330 works but its reception is horrifying. I've had 0 bars on my motorola where my Nokia had 3.

Well, at least the motorola phones "look" cool. lol

looks like it does have some funky jack for radio; however, it's "only" like $15 at "cell-access" or some website. The PC-data cable (model DKU-2) is about $15, too, at that same site, and it's genuine Nokia. (at Nokia.com it's a wopping $49!!)

...I'll never use the radio anyway (the pc-data cable I might, someday). I did play with the camera a little more, though. very good! (not going to make it a habit, though)
We can use our old car chargers, as they were also Nokia's so we didn't have to buy those, and it was $69 for both phones with wall chargers (alltel)

actually this new phone is very slim, just has the "brick" form, but a lot smaller and thinner than the prev. generation:

I also like the 3-way calling, which I think is more useful than one thinks.
Main thing is, it feels very solid, and well-built, and gets the signal in w/out any trouble.
