Cell Phone plan options.

Hello,
I am nearing the end of my 4th Sprint contract, and am considering going into another direction.

My use is vastly different than quite a few others - I don't own a 'smart' phone, nor feel the need to ever have one. My plan is 450 minutes and 300 texts/month. I pay (after taxes) $57.00/month.

Given that there are no contract plans out there with unlimited text/data/minutes for roughly $50.00, I am wondering why I don't move on and try something else.

Has anyone ever approached their carrier, and 'negotiated' a plan? I'd like to stick with what I have, but I also feel I shouldn't be paying more than $40.00/month for what I have.

I really don't want a data plan or smart phone, but am wondering what options I really have in 2013?

I have had great success with Walmart's Straight Talk. The plan you have would cost about $32 taxes and all per month. Or you can get unlimited everything for under $50. Just have to pick a phone and pay for it upfront but they have specials online that are worth looking into. Ordered mine online never went to the store and transferred my phone number too.

One I have been looking into is the Solavei as well but that is for an upgraded smart phone and 4G for $45 per month. Only one that low I am aware of that offers 4G.

If you're happy with Sprint's coverage, other companies resell their coverage, like Virgin Mobile and Kajeet (both of which I have, one is my wife's & one is my son's phone), for less per month than Sprint.

Go to any of the majors websites and look up their month to month plans. Both Verizon and AT&T have pretty good ones.

If you dont use data then a pay as you go type phone is a much cheaper way to go. There are several to choose and they range in price but it may be a good way for you to save money every month.

Yeah.Check out H20. Not perfect, but acceptable. Best prepaid plans are sold over the 'net.

Ask Sprint about there "Get Connected 300" plan... it's only $30 a month.

Call Sprint and say you are considering jumping ship and see what they have to offer you.

I would check out StraightTalk at Walmart. They have got to be reselling another carrier's cell service.

I have a $30 T-Mobile plan for 100 min talk and unlimited text/data. I never saw it advertised but was offered it when I called and talked to them.

Bottom line is don't assume they only offer what you see advertised.

I use Tracfone. I buy about 1800 minutes for about $90.00. It last about 3 months if I keep my calls short. That includes a lot of texting.

Many Straight Talk and Tracfone plans are the same. You can get 2 types though. One plan uses Verizon network. Other plans use ATT and T-Mobile. Mine is the ATT and T-Mobile and has been very good to use. My old ATT plan dropped calls constantly while new one does not. Phone has very good calling and texting but limited internet meaning the phone not the plan. It is not a smart phone but they do offer them for a higher upfront cost but well worth it if that is what you want.

I'd say you are getting ripped off. For several years I have used T-Mobile's pay as you go - no contract. Unlimited EVERYTHING and $50.00 or less per month. I pay monthly online through comfi and it varies from $49 to $49.75, no taxes, no extras. You do need your own phone that will work on their network.

If you have any "trust worthy" family member to share a family plan with, it is usually the cheapest. I have a family plan with my parents, wife, for a total of 4 lines, 450mins / month and unlimited mobile to mobile (AT&T), nights & weekend, no text, no data, and company discount for about $80/mo before tax for all 4 lines.

If you don't need smart phone, I'd 2nd Virgin and Kajeet idea.
