A double tap would be more permanent.

Look on Amazon or at Petsmart...

The motion activated air dusters do work for many cats.

It depends on the cat though...what one cat might hate, another one might love.

My mom read somewhere that Vicks Vaporub was a good cat deterrent, so she rubbed some on a door to keep a cat we had from scratching/beating on that door. Turned out that cat loved Vicks Vaporub, and would lick it off the door. The cat had lost her sense of smell due to an illness years ago (neglect from previous owners), her lack of smell made her like weird things.

Foil is usually a pretty good deterrent, and you probably already have it and it's cheap. You just have to find whatever harmless material your cat hates and use that.

All these ideas make me wish we still had our inside cat. We have 3 kittens we adopted that are quite mischievous.. But they aren't in the house. And for good reason. Lol.

A friend got one of those motion sensor air dusters, completely harmless and their cat wont go near the counter after a couple sprays.

Because spraying air at it is rude. Cats hate when people are rude to them. "How dare you make a noise at me and ruffle my fur."

The good thing about cats is, it's almost guaranteed they will find something totally harmless to be totally rude and offensive, and they won't have any part of it. You just have to find the right thing whether its an air duster, Vicks Vaporub, foil, kitchen soap, etc.

The cat I mentioned in my previous post that loved Vicks Vaporub hated "people food." You could put a t-bone steak in front of her and she would turn her nose up like it was the most disgusting thing she had ever seen. She trained our other cat to think kind of the same way, but he did like some people food like crushed up Doritos and graham crackers. Go figure.
