The Caterpillar website, in the past at least, described this filter as suitable for 250 hours in a Class 8 application. By estimating how many gallons of fuel those engines consume per hour, I figured my Golf could go 100k miles before a filter replacement. But I always get tired of waiting, so I always replace it earlier.
I change the Cat 2-micron fuel filter in my Golf TDI about every 60k miles, About the same amount of fuel passes through your filter every 20k-30k miles.
