I didn't see any matches in the VOAs. How does it rate against Delo and Rotella and other HDEOs? Advance has it on for $5.00 per gallon. Is that even a sale?

That is definately a sale, they are trying to penetrate the HDEO users market i believe. I tried it in the Ford diesel and it seems very stout. film stregth with this oil seems to be exceptional, but if it is in an application that does not come up to temp, as in short trips all the time my impression is that you will find the response more sluggish. It really seems to shine when at full operating temp, for the large block cold nature engine this would be longer than 25 miles . In heavy load, long haul operation though this is up there with delo and ahead of Rotella in the same weight though in my personal ranking. i would expect a price jump sometime in the future. It is not on my list for winter use because of this cold nature, but i am preferabl e to 5w40's for winter in these applications anyway.

Yeah, well I have cars so I wouldn't be using it for winter. Maybe blending?

I was in Wally-World this morn to see if they had any sales. Man what a mess. I wasn't even alone on the OIL aisle at 4:30 am! They had 1 shelf of Supertech 10W30 for $5.48 and another for $4.97. Both were approved and both were WPP. I thought it was an error but both tags said Supertech 10W30. Odd. I'll probably pick up some of this Tection and some of the Motorcraft b/c my AZ and Advace are right across the street. "Yeah honey, I was getting that sale priced portable dvd player...yeah...!" LOL It's weird that a Wal-Mart down here would have WPP since we're so close to all the Exxon action. Katrina still maybe?

Anyway, the way that sale is listed, the Tection is 3 for $15 or $5 each. I don't see a limit but maybe they are limiting to three gallons.

The super tech WW oils have been WPP down here all along , as they have a plant in Houson I believe. AZ I heard had the same sale , or similar, for the Tection Extra, so I think it is a Castrol promotion - unanounced. I hate that you don't know the real price of anything in AZ until you get up to the counter though. AZ = lousy service in my book these days, at least the one locally.

For the price I say try it, you may really like it, i would expect the price to be 7.50 to 8.00 a gal. normally . In fact i might just go pick some more up too, but i already have about 20 gal of 15w40 in stock as it is, mostly Delo. I would be interested in what blend you may try too.

Well, I have a sludge-prone Saab 9-5 so I was thinking about it for a little extra protection. I don't know if I'd use it full strength in winter given the car and the fact that even a fine turbo can blow it's seals if the pressure is too high in it. Maybe add a quart to the supertech or motorcraft? In the summer, I would have no problem as I drive 90% highway miles on I-20 going 75 mph. I've used M1 15W50 in my previous Saab on ocassion and it didn't seem to mind.

Didn't realize about WPP, I thought they were in Nebraska. But I guess everyone has refineries down here! I'm ready for the refineries to get back up to speed It's very odd to live down here and pay higher than the national average for gas! Ditto on Autozone. My local store has a bunch of kids who know nothing combined w/ older men who THINK they know everything but give a chuckle ehrn you buy anything besides M1.

mmm, no experience with the Saabs, but if sludge prone and turbo I would be looking for primarily A3/B3 oils i think, unless you definately do a turbo cool down after every run . The Tection Ex has an HT/HS of 3.9 I think, or 4.0, so you should be ok on that score, and is a primary GII base, tough call.

Running it in my John Deere tractors. In fact, I am going to change the oil in my '72 JD 820 this morning, I just bought from an estate sale, and fill it with Tection Extra. Tractor now has a Fram Filter on it

, which appears to be the WRONG one for this application. I am going to put on a Baldwin, BT259, which I get from the local Cat dealer, who is a Baldwin distributor.

Just tore down my JD2520 due to leaking cylinder liner O-rings, and it was squeaky clean inside, had been running Tection in it previously.

Well, the turbo is water-cooled and in my experience with recent saabs, as long as it's clean oil... Ah well, maybe I'll just mix in a little or buy in bulk in anticipation of a diesel! LOL.

I'm running Castrol Tection Extra in my big diesel right now. My engine continues to be quiet with this oil like Delo 400 (Long Life was loud). I'm going to have to run to Walmart today if it's on-sale!

Okay, back from the trenches. Autozone didn't have any idea about the Motorraft sale but when I told them about it, they gave me the price. So, $4.99 per gallon for 2 10W30's. Nicest people I've encoutered in that particular store so far. Then I went across the street to Advance. I got 5 15W40 Tection gallons for $5 each and 1 case of regular GTX for $20.16. What I'll do w/ all the Tection, I'll figure out. But the 5W30 will go in the wife's CR-V. I know it specs 20wt but 5W30 has always been fine.

Should be. I think it's like someone said, Castrol is trying to push the stuff. The woman at the Advance I went to stared at me saying, "I don't know why we never sell this stuff. Nobody who uses Rotella will touch it." Oh well.

fwiw, my mom's 2.0L VW Passat has gotten serviced with RX since new, twice a year for 10 years, city driving...with no consumption or deposits at all. Only 8k a year though.

I'm using it in my '91 Subaru. It's working well (no UOAs though; none planned). Did you see on their website how they have an Orbahn (sp?) shear test graph showing them considerably better than Chevron and Mobil products?

Yes, I just put it in my Yamaha Motorcycle and my John Deere tractor...The tractor loved it...haven't rode the bike yet with it due to the recent snow we've gotten.
