Today i was just at my local auto parts store to get some antifreeze, i noticed they had some new oil, Castrol Power 1 15w50 which is a semi-synthetic motorcycle oil, do you think this would be alright for my Ford Capri? Where can i find the full additive pack to see things like the zddp content and other things, it wasn't too expensive

Search the various European Castrol websites. They have more informative product data sheets than the American site.

FCD, that should be a very good oil.

In motorcycles, they often need to lubricate the engine, gear box and clutch all together. So these oils tend to use shear stable VII, have high zinc and are low on friction modifiers.

I think they are great oils for car and bike, and should work in your Capri very well. Castrol should do a good job putting it together. Better than your average 20W-50 PCMO.

My only problem with them in Australia is that they are over priced in the local market. More a reflection of bikes becoming hobbies rather than transport. If you can get it at a good price, then go for it !!

Hi FCD,

It's hard to find much info on the Castrol Power 1 semi-synthetic (we call it Power 1 GPS here, and it's only available as a API SJ 10W-40).

But here is a link to VOA for another Castrol motorcycle oil (Actevo) 10W-40, Castrol Actevo 10W-40 VOA

But to me, it looks like what I would expect from a typical Castrol bike oil, about 1000 ppm Zinc.
They are usually rated API SJ or SL, check for this, if so they will be fine for your car in the correct weight.

If it's the one made in Germany, that's very good oil right there. Should be dyed red and a sweet smell to it.

I'm pretty sure it is German made, for the next oil change i will be using VR1 20w50 but next i will try out Power 1 and since it's part synthetic i might run it for a bit longer, the only problem is they only sell it in one liter bottles and not a big 5 liter jug so it will be more expensive

The thing is i'm torn between either this Power 1 15w50 or Valvoline VR1 10w60 , VR1 is actually cheaper and i can get it sent to me in 24hrs with free shipping , which one do i go for?? i guess i'll have to decide it by flipping a coin or something lol

Yes, and they will probably all work fine.

OK, which is the cheapest of those three ?

Or which grabs you the most ? I do like the sound of the semi-syn Power 1

VR1 20w50 is the cheapest being a mineral oil , VR1 10w60 sounds interesting to me also being a semi-synthetic and the fact that it has a proven reputation and a great add pack , but over time i will surely try out all three , i also want to give Mobil 1 15w50 a try which is i believe a full synthetic with a great add pack , great shear stability and low volatility and high zddp content
