Fo all you heavy for spec oil guys its interesting that Castrol seems to stick to that side of things. Check out the PDS for a few of the products they sell. This is all 5w20 but the 30 has the same affect right at the top end of the viscosity for spec chart. I have a small rear main seal leak and so far PHM has done the best and I attributed it to be slightly thicker or whatever you want to call it so when I noticed Magnetic at almost the top of the CST scale for a 5w20 I thought I might give it a try. for some reason I never hear much about Castrol on here. I have noticed it has started dropping off the shelves at walmart in my area so I guess its just not popular. I really like that they list all the details on spec and that the PDF sheets on their website are all up to date unlike other companies who seem to not care what the spec sheets say. I also noticed that the PQI has them tested very close to whats listed on the spec sheets unlike some others who are much further off.

Most 5w20 and 0w20 are near the top of the allowed viscosity range at least initially.

agree but right at the top. MS5K is 8.4 Valvoline WB 8.5 but GTX at 9.1 with 9.3 being the limit. Just interesting.

I'm actually waiting on UOA results for Castrol GTX 5w-20, I'll post them when blackstone sends me the data. It seemed to run just fine in my Grand Marquis.

I had my brother use Castrol HM 10W-40 in his VW 2.slow oil burner. He use to burn up to 3 quarts in 5,000 miles with other 40 weights. He switched to the Castrol HM which has the highest 40 weight viscosity at 100c of 16.0 on the market and his oil burning went down to less then a quart in that same 5,000 OCI.

got my first UOA back and it was Castrol GTX 5W-20

Seems to work just fine

Im new and tried to post my UOA but its frustrating trying to format it correctly, so I'll just post the notes blackstone sent me.

Thanks for the notes. Hopefully the rest of the car is as clean as this report! This conventional oil held up well
during this run, and it did a great of keeping the internal parts of the engine lubricated. You could switch to synthetic if
you wanted to, but we'd be surprised to see that improve things on our end. Iron was at just 4 ppm compared to the 15
ppm these engines make on average, and you just can't get much better than that. The TBN was strong, and you could
go 5,000 miles next time no problem. Averages show typical Ford 4.6L wear after 5K miles.

My TBN was 53.3 when the range for this is 46-59

Thanks for updating. Just for kicks how long did you run it and what was the final CST at 100c? After the run

I did a short OCI... 2,683 Miles

cST @100 was 8.27 (range is 6.0-10.2)

anything else you would like to know?

I'd post the results if I could convert a .pdf into a .jpeg but I cant, and because i refuse to do the formatting for text... its a PITA...

edit - My TBN is 6.0 instead of what I said earlier, don't know where I got that from... its still a solid number
