Castrol GTX

Really - the majority of "conventional" motor oils from Castrol, Valvoline, Pennzoil, QS, Mobil, etc are fine. However, there really isn't much to differentiate them other than marketing. The large majority of vehicle owners use them for short change intervals and do fine.

There's nothing bad but nothing special either. Like I said, just marketing.

I'm just curious. I am guessing you are about 12 or 13 years old. Am I close?

In my neck of the woods, GTX has quite a following. Anytime it's on sale, the shelves are cleared out quickly by folks who often pass on some really good oils that we here at Bob's love the most(good for me). It's only GTX for them.

Kind of like Royal Purple.

pscholte,

This is an oil preference site.

Castrol is fine if that is what you prefer.

Have a beer and enjoy your life...

And, yes, if you are curious, I still have the youthful vigor of a 13 year old.

Sorry to offend.

But, I am still interested if you have any comments regarding why Castrol is your oil of choice, to keep the discussion relevant.

Nothing wrong with GTX. I would shop around and find a sale on any of the major brands, buy a bunch and stick with it.

Nothing wrong with GTX, my fiance used it religiously (her brother changed it) until I started doing her changes. Her Monte Carlo at the time was spotless through the fill hole for what it's worth. It's always on sale just look around. Ive noticed there's a couple guys on this site that will slam Castrol up and down but I'd ignore them.

Back in the day, conventional Castrol was the only oil my father would use. It is called GTX now, but in the past, it was given other names.

I have tried a lot of different oils since joining this site. They have all worked well, but my go to oil has always been GTX. It probably will always be, since it something that my Father has always used. I did pick up a few jugs of Valvoline with that $5 off coupon for the next oil changes though!
