Been running NAPA Syn in my 2011 Altima and thinking about just going back to a good conventional oil for 4K OCI's. Castrol seems to be premium oil. Any comments from the group?

I don't see any clear reason to pick Castrol as a brand.
I would prefer a Shell product or even Exxon WAY before I'd bother with a Castrol product.
They don't seem to have the sales as often as Shell either.
People can get a 5L jug of Pennzoil Ultra for $28 bucks, and that is a GTL base stock.
I would like to hear the pros and cons others have to say about Castrol as well, my list of reasons tallys up to "why bother".

GTX will serve you well. It`s been my fave dino every since I first began driving.
Castrol GTX is good oil that can easily go for 4k. My dad has put it everything for as long as I can remember and has had no problems. If that's what you want to use then use it, there are a lot of castrol haters on here that will question your thinking for picking it.
I used GTX on a couple previous vehicles.
Didn't have any problems with it, just seem to varnish more than what I would have liked.

GTX is fine. I like Mobil Super better, especially for the money. I am really liking the Warren Distribution products. Peak is always good and SuperTech Syn is nice.

Why dont you stick with Napa and try their conventional for 4k ocis. Its essentially Valvoline conventional
Seems like a good oil, but not exactly a value; I've seen it for 4.49 USD / qt.

To be honest Castrol products seem to run smoother in my F150 then most others, but not enough that I could justify the $$$ difference.
Nothing wrong with GTX. It was my go to oil for quite a few years. It may lead to some varnish build up, but doesn't seem to hurt anything. As mentioned, Mobil 1 Super 5000 or Pennzoil conventional are also solid choices. With the SN version there is probably less varnish issue with the GTX than previous.
If you like the Napa Syn, then just wait till it goes on sale and stock up. It's a great value at $3.49 a quart or even less.

For a 4000 mile interval, I don't think you'll see a big difference among the big names. I'd get whichever is cheapest. If you're partial to GTX, go for it.
GTX is a very good oil used it for many years no complaints or issues. The police department here has run bulk GTX 5w20 in their Crown Vics for 5k OCI's for years with no oil related problems or complaints either.

I've used GTX in the past and its what I'm running in my van now. I hear people say all the time that its expensive but at our Wal Mart there is essentially no price difference between Castrol GTX, Pennzoil conventional, and Valvoline conventional in the 5 qt jugs. Even the individual quarts have very little price variance amongst the major brands there.
Buy by price. GTX is one of the cheapest conventionals up here, and I've used a fair bit of it over the years. What fisher83 says above is true. Pricing is regional. It seems that most posters here state that Quaker State Ultimate Durability is a great bargain, for instance. Our Walmarts sell it for more than PP.
Again, buy by price. There's nothing wrong with GTX.
