I blame Castrol for what M1 did. After all, they started it.
My soreness about what Castrol did extends to the point that I won't use Syntec unless it's a specific offering I want but can't find elsewhere, such as GC or the 5w-50 (yes, I know there's M1 0w-40, and some 5w-50s that one can never find in Canada). I'll buy GTX no problem, but if I want a synthetic, I'll go with just about anything else.
The fact that Syntec has historically been overpriced here (which is beginning to change) while GTX has historically been the cheapest name brand conventional has a lot to do with it, too. Another thing that's odd about Castrol is they have an absolute boatload of different HDEO offerings in our Walmarts. You want a wide selection of Rotella, you go to Canadian Tire or Partsource. You want a wide selection of Castrol HDEOs, Walmart is the place to be.
Yes, we do make life to complicated. I suppose if we held grudges against every oil company, we'd really be in trouble.
