Oil was taken from oil filter, has not been changed yet. Oil had 5796 miles on it when sample was taken. Not sure why copper wear is high. MMO was run at 20 percent replacement.

Thanks for viewing!

you took a premium oil, and turned it into a below average oil with "MMO". there is really no mystery, MMO is NOT good for your engine. Only use it for 100-200 miles at the end of your OCI, better yet, just add it to your gasoline, and keep it out of crank case altogether. Your UOA is useful, because it really shows NO benefit to the MMO, and possibly increased wear of the brass and bronze parts.

With the TBN that low, NO WAY I would push it another 1500 - 2000 miles... 500 MAX!

Looks like MMO did no harm, just thinned the oil a bit. Also, this UOA shows NO proof that MMO may cause excess wear, just look at some of the others.

I wouldn't recommend sampling from the filter though. Still looks good nevertheless!

It could be partially due to the MMO, but I'm continually unimpressed by Edge's TBN retention. I'd dump it at 6,000 personally.

If the engine is developing problems, then the MMO is not the cause/blame. It would be interesting, however, to see the next UOA without MMO and compare it to this one. If the copper reading is lower - then we'll talk about why. OTOH, if the copper reads much higher then maybe the MMO did actually help - too hard to say at this point. It's really hard to speculate with the unusual sampling procedure.

Also i'm not sure I would pull a sample from the filter - might just be my line of thinking though.

I'll have to agree with the others - time for and OC. With that TBN reading I wouldn't go any further.

I'd love to see a sample taken the recommended way, and a sample taken from the filter at the same time. This would tell us if taking the sample from the filter had any impact.

I'd change the oil, and start over w/o additives - oil has thinned below a 30-weight, and TBN is just about spent. I don't know if this is from the MMO or not, but the oil is done.

BTW, is this a Toyota I-6 in a Supra? nice engine/car!

you should go with edge 10w30. the cold property is just as good as a conventional 5w30, so you're not losing anything there, plus the oil will not shear down anywhere near as fast, so you really could run it 12-15000 miles. for a summer oil, edge 10w30 cannot be beat. that's what i run, anyway.
for winter, spring, or fall, in northern states or canada, that's what the 5w30 is for.

Thanks guys, still kinda dissapointed on how low the TBN dropped. My next OC will be with Penzoil Plat, not sure if I will go with MMO this time. Maybe these engines are not meant to have long OCI's.

It has been stated a few times here that MMO lowers TBN, that is probably true. I look at it this way, if I was going to use MMO for a lifter tick, or to clean an engine I would not run it for an extended OCI. JMO YMMV

As far as the wear goes, the universal averages are based on a 5100 mile run

Based on that most of the metals were actually below average

Alum
Iron
Lead
Tin

Copper was the only one that doubled, but the oil was run for an extra 700 miles when compared to the universal average miles.
