Realized I never posted my UOA from my 6 month oil change back at the end of September. I drove it hard for the low mileage done. Did 2 trips through the Rockies. 1200KM/12HR day. I didn’t see a field to change the oil I used during submission. I put it in the note I changed oil but based on the comments they didn’t read it. So the first Run there is Amsoil, this second run is Castrol. With the concern for the Titanium being unfounded due to it being in the oil. It was an older Jug API SP but Dexos 1 Gen 2, not Gen3.

OEM Toyota YZZN1 Filter was in use not a 20 micron like my amsoil run

Insight/Comments always appreciated.

I assume you mean changed oil brands? At first I thought you mean drained and filled the oil (ie, "changing the oil").

To change the oil type/brand, go to Equipment Management, edit Component ID of the vehicle you are changing the oil type on, then change your type in the Product Values area.

That is indeed what I meant, and thank you for informing me on how to change the oil brand, thank you!

I don't think there is much going on here, but would suggest a mileage based oil change interval. Also, on that car, which is very easy on oil, I think you can easily use one of the many regular (Valvoline, Castrol, Quaker State, Pennzoil or Supertech, or Kirkland or MotoMaster/Canadian Tire House Brand etc.) brands of oil with 5,000 mile OCI's and you will never have an oil related failure. Amsoil just seems pricy with no discernible benefit to me.

At least they finally added the fact that Titanium could be an additive. I don't think I've seen them say that before. Looks ok & the longer #1 interval looks like you could go further. Thanks for sharing your Prius results.
I guess I should clarify. On that first oil change with Amsoil, the mileage may be more, but that is because after 10,000KM on a Trip I am unable to have the Computer tell me what percentage I was using EV only for. That first oil change had maybe at most 3000KM on it. This second oil change was less then 10,000 overall, so I was able to tell that I used the ICE for 5035 KM. So all those KM in the second report are actual engine run time miles.

My next oil change is on deck to either be Valvoline EP or R&P haven't decided yet. I am only using those because I have a big stash I will be using up. As for Amsoil, I do agree I doubt I really "need" or it. However I buy for 2 other coworkers. That means my Preferred Customer status is free every year.

The price of an Amsoil Oil change with PC pricing $84.28 before tax, and that includes an Amsoil filter. If I wanted a Major that goes on sale once a month at Canadian Tire it'd be $42 bux for a gallon of oil, and around 8 for an oem filter roughly. So $50 before tax. I don't consider an extra $35 too onerous for what I do consider a premium product even if it is not "needed" in my application. The benefit of the product is I achieved my best mileage, 56MPG with Amsoil.

I do however sincerely thank you for your input. Civil discourse is a great way for all parties to learn and grow.

I've seen that issue on this forum posted a couple times but still isn't something top of mind. That EV's may not tell you how much ICE vs EV time in mileage if over 10,000 km. Thanks for the explanation. To be clear so long as you stay <10 km it will show percentages of EV that you can then calculate from the mileage you ran during the interval?

I reset my Trip B everytime I do my oil change. It keeps track for me of the ratio of EV Driving. As far as I can remember after 10,000 KM it stopped. But perhaps my memory is faulty. I'll be changing my oil in April, and then the summer run should see in excess of 10,000KM easily. I will be able to double check and confirm then. But yes the Trip A and B will both show you a percentage of EV only Driving. So i take that percentage and the KM and work out the ratio for ICE run time.

Understood, Thanks.

The amount of EV only driving is more about how often you are able to charge your Prius Prime, as opposed to any performance stemming from the oil, or from how you are driving. I used to always remind folks that their hybrid cars run on gasoline only, even is some gas is converted to electricity. Plug-ins made it so I can't say that now, but you get my point. I would still say that it is best to change oil on mileage. The reduction in engine wear is going to be partially offset by all that infernal start-stop activity.

Great advice/insight. I’m very lucky I have a 25KM round trip commute with free EV charging at work. So my work week the ICE never turns on. I go out of my way to do a 100KM drive with the ICE every 10 days or so just to burn off the condensation and let it run. I just change my oil every 6 months regardless. I have a large stash and no qualms wasting a few dollars.

For the miles silicon and aluminum are high, possibly indicating abrasive wear on the bearings. I’d check the air filter to start.
