You're wasting your time trying to explain it to them. Even if what they say is true its not really a fair comparison because they are comparing their new formulas to Mobil's old formula.

New formula... old formula, nobody cares. EXMO got caught with their pants down, plain and simple. Everybody want's to slay Goliath, hence the situation we're in now.

Actually, if you look carefully at the Sequence IVA test, these are huge differences that have been measured in camshaft lobe wear, that do reflect on engine life in a real way. It may be marketing, but it is extremely unusually for two companies to attack a market leader with real factual information in this way.

Exactly. Youre wasting your time trying to show "them" this.

The difference in wear that Ashland claims is very significant.

Whats the real factual information? 4x, 8x doesn't mean much to me.

Castrol/Valvoline use Lubrizol as a supplier and I believe that is where the difference lies...

XOM produces most base oils but they are not a leader in additive technology AFAIK.

Thanks buster

Wow.
If you guys would spend a fraction of the time with your wives that you spend on this site, you might wet your dipstick a little more often.

Wow, 4X-8X. Does that mean the 400 to 500,000 mile M1 lubed engine will go 4,000,000 miles? I gotta get that stuff!

Women dig a man who knows a thing or two about lube...i think you need to learn a thing of two.

So far in this neck of the woods, I've seen it at Pep Boys and Autozone. Both had 5w-30 and 10w-30 weights and both were charging $7.99/qt with nothing bigger than a qt. bottle.

At least I don't have to go back to the store and take more pictures of the EDGE display.

Thanks for calling buster!

I am waiting for that one!

That's what I was thinking!

On my way to Walmart, there's bound to be a, "Super Tech offers 16 X better wear protection than Mobil 1," display out by now.

It's hit the shelves at Pep Boys here in S. Az. Only 5-30 and 10-30 so far, and only by the quart. 7.99. No sign of the 8X!!! advertising.

Maybe because they had already packaged that product before they came out with the 8X claim, and this will show up on newer stock that is being packaged as of today?

The 8X claim is not on the bottles. It is on cardboard stands placed near store shelves. I guess that particular store hasn't rolled those stands out yet.

I'd love to see a major start selling litres in the US market. This would have been an opportunity for that. I guess it's more a marketing ploy vs a next-gen product, but it's one way around Wal*Mart's patent on the 5 quart jug. I have too much oil to worry about it, but if I was grabbing some oil, this would be it. 0w-20 would be kewl.
