Interesting. I noticed the same thing when I ran Redline 10w40, which has a lot of moly in it. I bought a case and as my best friend needed a change, I let him have the other 6 quarts and put it in his 98 Mustang GT. It's just a 6 cylinder but his sister had just given it to him and it had a lot of mileage on it. So we put the Redline in it to do some cleaning and man did it ever. lol. Same thing as my car and yours. Got dark fast! He was happy. We only ran it for 6k in his car (I know I know) as we changed a bit early to help with the cleaning.
Then we ran some SynPower for 6k miles and that oil was still a nice lightly golden brown when we took it out. Probably should have ran it longer as that OC was a ton of highway miles and the oil looked and smelled perfect still. I think he just wanted it out to finally get to his oil of choice, Mobil 1 0w40. His car calls for 5w30 but he thought since the Mobil 1 0w40 is known to shear down to a 30 weight pretty quick, it would be a great choice for him, especially since it's still summer and daily temps are over 100f. We are curious however to see how fast the oil gets dark.
Back to my car, which I bought new, never before or since has my oil turned dark so fast. Not sure if it was the Group V aspect or the high moly aspect that did it. I have plans to try Redline 5w40 though, so I can compare and see. But there's nothing really to clean in my car as it's only 21k miles and I change the oil way too often. lol. I can't help myself!
