I was surprised to learn that the Castrol EDGE 5w30 doesn't carry the Honda/Acura HTO-06 approval. I'd think that a new product developed for a specific market would try to cover more than just the generic approvals.

For the price I'll shop elsewhere.

It appears meeting the HTO-06 test and scoring well on the Seq IVA wear test is tough to accomplish. Mobil chose to formulate more for high temp deposit protection than the low temp/load Seq IVA test.

I guess the reason Castrol EDGE didn't seak the HTO spec. is that it can't come up to that standard at this time. Wonder why?

The RDX is not really a popular vehicle so they may have just not gone after it.

Doesn't PP pass both, and not perform poorly in seq IVA?

It meets both, yes.

P and Zn should only be used for long-term trending in an engine, nothing else...

Well the one VOA here does not look like a cheap oil. Once we get more VOAs and used oil analysis we will know more.

Yes the price is high. But the additive pack seen here is to die for.

Compared to the first Mobil 1 Extended Performance VOA I saw :

I would say Edge is priced just like the other high end oils. M1 being 6.99-7.99 around here a quart, and Mobil 1 Extended Performance being7.99-8.49 a quart. Pending more VOAs, used oil analysis, ect. . We will know for sure.

Their website says it contains different base oils including PAO.

I just switched from Amsoil to Castrol Edge due to availability. So I will see how it does and do a Blackstone labs when it's time to change.

But would that apply to this new N. American Edge?
