Casite vs. Hastings 613 Oil Filter

So, a while back I cut open a bunch of filters for the GM 4.8/5.3 liter engines. One of the filters was the Hastings LF613. I wanted to compare this to the value line offering from Baldwin/Hastings, the Casite CF613. What I found was internals that were constructed identically. However, what the photo doesn't show is filter media that was palpably thinner. It was definitely noticeable. So, at least as far as I can tell, a person would be well advised to spend a little extra on a Hastings over a Casite, despite them coming from the same manufacturer.

Thanks for posting the photos. I'm a big fan of the Baldwin and Hastings lines, not Casite, which is Clarcor's economy filter. Like the domestic Wix filters, it's hard to beat that American made quality.

I like Baldwin and Hastings oil filters a lot too.

The Federated Auto Parts oil filters are made by Hastings (Clarcor) ... are they of the Casite line?

I'm not sure where they Federated Auto parts filters lie on the quality scale. I would suspect, that as a house brand, that it would be on the same plane as Casite, with the premium stuff reserved for name brand.
