Casite shelf life?

I did a bit of searching but couldn't find much, how long is the shelf life of oil filters. A co-worker gave me an old casite oil filter he found in his dads garage probably at least ten years old, theres no rust or anything on it, i was mostly worried about the filter element deteriorating to nothing.

I'm guessing 15 years if kept in a cool dry place.

Casite is Clarcor's budget line of filters; Baldwin and Hastings are their top quality lines.

I'd be concerned about either the rubber seals or the adhesive deteriorating. Especially with a cheapo Casite, I'd toss it.

I used two 20-year-old Spectrum filters on my mother's Sable with no ill effects. They were stored on the garage shelf.
