Carvana Bad Offer

I would never expect CARVANA or the like to give you top dollar given their business model.

What not private sell it? is it junk? A little bit of work is usually worth 3 grand.
Many say it's a hassle.

Well it takes a bit of hustle to make 3g's the "old fashioned way" :)
No it is expensive and newer-2020
I find it hard to private sell more expensive things and people seem to have issues getting loans and if it is cash unless I go to the bank with them you have to be careful about funny money

Yup, not too many private buyers out there able to write a $40K+ check on the spot. And then in my case I'd have to deal with joy riders, wanting to take it for a spin. I don't want to deal with any of this.

Selling any car privately that's worth $10,000.00 or more is problematic. Most don't have cash, you have to meet them at their Bank, Credit, Union, etc. Trading it in or selling to Carvana, etc.is much less headaches.

The Charger of that year only comes in automatic.

Depends on particular version, condition, and mileage. The one in my sig would be closer to mid 40s.

Subjective of course, but I happen to like these Brass Monkey wheels:

Thats a nice looking Charger.

I prefer the term test pilot.

I've had really good luck selling "expensive" cars. They take longer to move but the buyers seem to be BITOG types that don't like dealers and love clean one owner cars.

That Charger is a great candidate for eBay. There's huge demand for SRTs in other parts of the world, sold mine on there. Guy wired me the money and sent a car carrier to my house and picked it up. Couldn't have been an easier transaction.

I have had the opposite and think your experiences are not the norm. I have any trade ins where the dealer appraised it at $1,500.00 less than I thought I could sell it myself. To some that's a lot of money-for me I'll take the trade in amount.

Well that one netted me $3,500 over Carmax's offer (which was decent). All I did was wash the car, take pictures and create an eBay listing. Well worth the time.

I had another one I sold for $27k, a couple came and looked at it, said they'd call the next day after they meet with their credit union. Got a call in the morning asking if I could meet at the credit union at 1. 15 minutes later walked out with a check, went to my bank next door and cashed it.

Now these were extra cars I wasn't replacing. I will usually trade if I am buying a new car so I can get the sales tax credit - that's pretty sizeable if you're trading in something with decent value.

I buy and sell too many cars so I try and squeeze every penny I can out of every transaction.

Are you a dealer? If they're for yourself, I wonder how much you lose by buying and selling all the time.

No they're for me...I don't want to think about it. lol!

Used car prices have been high the last few years otherwise I never would have swapped as much as I have.

Didn't want to take over the thread but just wanted to point out that the "extra" money you're making, you're probably losing on swapping all the time.

Oh no doubt, just trying to minimize the loss. I understand I am not "making" any money.

I just did my first deal with Carvana yesterday...Sunday I did the get offer thing for three cars I take care of last checking their values at KBB and others about a year ago...I was surprised to find that one showed about 3K more than last year, another about 2K and the third, my 2007 F150 about 7 hundred more than last year...I sold them the F150 yesterday and it was one of the least painless transactions I have ever done.

I don't plan to buy anything from Carvana but I will say that my experiences with Carmax in the last few years were negative despite being excellent when they began in the early 2000s...

I would have no issues selling to Carvana again but I would always do my due diligence before selling one by checking other sources first...

Our family had a recent positive selling experience to Carvana, but I agree that's definitely car dependant.

We also had our first purchase experience with Carmax a few months ago and it was fantastic. They even registered the car for us, I was shocked. We've also sold them 3 cars, two at wholesome dump get rid of it prices and one where their offer was better than anyone else's. Again I suppose car dependant.
