Hey Guys,

So Finally I Converted my Mazda 3 2.3L to Spin ON filters ...
I got SpinOn filter from 2.0L engine ..

I wonder if flow and bypass pressure should be considered when choosing filter ...

What filters you guys using ?

AMSOIL
K&N
Wix
PureOne
other ?

Did anyone have any problems with noise ? ( aka bad filter )

Hey,

You just buy a new filter mount ( OEM Mazda/Ford ) unscrew 4 screws + oil sensor. And re install new mount and you are good to go ...

There are some nice how to for Mazdas .. but I'm pretty sure that we have same engine ?

Kris,

Because higher end filters are harder for us to get up here in Canada (PureOne) I would use Amsoil EAO filters and change every 20K KM. Change the oil before then of course, but you can leave it on for that long if you are running Syn. Change at 10K KM if on Dino.

The filter will last that long and offer excellent filtration and flow at the same time...

Well My is 2004 I don't have warranty ...
But I heard stories that dealers converted customers .. ( easier for them to change Oil )

Dealer needs to prove that this part caused a problem ...

StevieC.

I have someone who is visiting me from U.S. every 2 weeks so bringing some filters is not a problem ..

I'm thinking about getting some RoyalPurple and PureOnes

But I like the Idea of EAO

Hey Steve,

Sure you can ... I will be getting some RP and PureOnes too...
I hope that they have PepBoys in Chicago thats where my friend is coming from

I can roll out EAO ... I just found out that EAO57 is discontinued for now ...

As oil filter is mounted horizontally in Mazda 3, anti-drain back feature on the oil filter is not really a concern, use whatever filter you prefer.

I used Mazda OEM filter, pure one and motorcraft filters and I noticed no difference between them as far as startup noise is concerned.

I use the Motorcraft FL910. Its $3.67 at Walmart. I tried the FL400, its the same thread, but its a hair too long and rubbed a little on the splash shield.

If it was out of warranty I wouldn't have a problem doing it, but if it was still under warranty and the dealership didn't do it then I'd probably wouldn't. Whether it was the cause or not I'd believe that if they wanted to deny a repair they woldn't claim that it was a unauthorized modification.

I use NAPA Golds on my 3. Also SuperTechs.....the spec'd filter is ST3614, but you can use the longer ST3600 with no problems.

How did you ever find a MC filter part number for this engine? I've never seen it documented anywhere.

That is what I'm getting at.....I have the 2.0L engine to start, but cannot find any Motorcraft docs to specify the correct MC filter for the Mazda 3.

Becuase the adaptor plate used on the Mazda 3 is also used on the Ford Ranger w/4cyl and that is the oil filter used on it for that year.It is a 2.3L as well.

I posted that information on the Mazda forums a while ago.

There are a few in this section. They're way back in time (relatively).

It's less of an issue now, but back then there were multiple "You'll shoot your eye out kid" about warranty concerns. Sure it could cause a hassle, but there's no material evidence that it can possibly be responsible for a lubrication failure. The identical engine uses the identical item.
