cartridge oil filter question

If you somehow didnt put a cartridge oil filter in after an oil change would the engine know or would it run fine? I dont own one of these cars, just wondering.

Since you are asking us, I assume you don't change your own oil. If someone else does your OCs you just have to trust them.

I have changed my own oil since i was 16. I was just wondering if someone forgot if there would be a noticable condition if no filter was present, thats all.

I had been thinking about this for a while. I may try it at my next oil change in the E430, it has cartridge oil filter on top of the engine, I can remove cartridge oil filter from the filter holder then reinstall the filter holder without the filter, drive the car around the block to see if I can detect any difference.

I doubt anyone could tell if the filter was installed or not by driving the car. Only visual inspection would tell.
