The oil I used was 20w-20 as she insisted. Also at her suggestion the car had a coolant filter with a little bag you changed and a sacrificial plate you polished on every bag change. The bag contained zinc chromate and a water pump lubricant. The system did not have any anti-freeze which is not needed where we lived. In all those years I never changed the radiator, just some minor solder repairs. I also used toilet paper to filter the oil and gasoline, Franz filters. So, you wanted oil. I think this car qualifies.

wow,,good write up, and 20w20,,,sort of shoots holes in those of us who are using all these high tech oils,,,was a good running car is all I can say and a good mechanic.

In the 80's Grandma joked that she would buy a new car as soon as they made one that was enough of an upgrade to bother with. Sometimes I think she was right and that I am 65 I'm beginning to discover how smart she was.

Handling ok on icy roads, esp. northern winters.

. One of the best small engines ever made by MAZDA . Take a beating . Seen it in person .

I keep coming back to them for some reason. Got 39.8mpg from Boonville, MO to St. Louis and back to Columbia going 75-80. I think it may need a tuneup but I'm not complaining.

If you paid $125 a month back then, you must have been loaded dude. That's equivalent to about 800 dollars now in term of car payment.

1973 Cadillac Sedan DeVille, gold on gold with a white vinyl top, 472 big block with a Rochester 4bbl. Bought it in 1998 for $100 cash, it had 55K on the odo and had been on blocks and under a tarp for 10 years. Started it with a new battery and a can of ether, drove it to the gas station on the 10-year old gas. I put 30k miles on it in a year, it ran like it was brand-new. I fell on hard times and couldn't afford the insurance, sold it to a pawn lot for $250. Last I heard, a friend spotted it in the local pick-n-pull. God, it makes me want to kick myself and cry.

1986 Camaro Z28, 305(LG4)carb/700R4 trans. hardtop. Bought March '91 w/53K mi sold May '94 w/78K mi. Sold to a friends brother-in-law who was a tire sales rep and used the car on his sales trips. Found out later he sold it and it had 226K on it!!
This was a win/win situation. I needed the money for a down payment on my first house, and he got a very reliable Camaro and really enjoyed driving it... obviously!!
